A man suspected of stealing a car was met with a dramatic turn of events on the night of July 5 near Tarouba on the highway. Police officers from the Highway Patrol Unit came across the stolen vehicle in the Debe district, prompting a high-speed chase that ended in a crash involving a van.

As the pursuit unfolded along the highway, additional officers intervened to block the stolen car near the Brian Lara Stadium on the northbound lane of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway at approximately 8 pm. The situation escalated when the driver of the stolen vehicle allegedly fired shots at the officers, leading to a retaliatory response from law enforcement.

The driver, a resident of Tarodale, suffered injuries from both the gunshot wound and the crash, necessitating transport to the hospital for medical attention. Meanwhile, the driver of the van involved in the collision was also taken to the San Fernando General Hospital for treatment.

Upon searching the stolen car, police discovered a revolver containing an undisclosed number of live and spent rounds. The incident serves as a vivid reminder of the risks and dangers faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty.
