Kyle Lewis, a 33-year-old fisherman from Balandra, tragically lost his life on July 4 in a shooting incident at his home. The police report revealed that Lewis was shot while he was asleep next to his wife, who initially mistook the loud noise for something else. The discovery of one spent 9mm casing at the scene indicated the tragic nature of the incident.

Speaking with the media at the Forensic Science Centre in St James, Lewis’s family, who wished to remain unnamed, shed light on his past and the potential motives behind his killing. They shared that Lewis had a history in the drug trade but had been making positive changes in his life, especially after his arrest during the pandemic. This transformation might have led to his untimely death, as those around him may not have accepted his decision to walk away from his past life.

Despite the heartbreaking loss, Lewis’s family emphasized the importance of not giving up on personal growth and change. They highlighted the need for support from both families and communities to help individuals leave lives of crime behind. Additionally, they called on the government to provide more resources and guidance for young men in areas like Balandra to prevent them from falling into similar situations.

Although they continue to hope for closure and answers regarding Lewis’s death, the family acknowledges the challenges of finding resolution in a country where many crimes go unsolved. The pain of losing a loved one is palpable, especially for Lewis’s mother, who remains a pillar of strength for the family despite the uncertainty of what lies ahead.
