The Health Ministry has issued a recall for 114 batches of potassium chloride extended-release capsules from an India-based manufacturer due to concerns over potential cardiac arrest. The failed dissolution of these capsules may cause high potassium levels, leading to irregular heartbeats.

These capsules are used to treat low potassium levels (hypokalemia) and are packed in bottles of 100-count and 500-count capsules. Although not registered for use in Trinidad and Tobago, the ministry advises anyone with these products to stop using them immediately and return them to the place of purchase.

A table with batch numbers and expiry dates ranging from June 2024 to September 2025 has been provided by the ministry. They assure the public that they will continue to monitor the situation and advise as necessary. For further information, individuals can contact the division at 217-4664 extension 13101 or via email at cfdd@health.gov.tt.
