Additional sailings have been added to the seabridge schedule on July 2 and July 3 to assist passengers stranded due to the impact of Hurricane Beryl, and it seems like the backlog has finally been resolved.
Early on July 2, a large crowd of stranded passengers gathered outside the Scarborough Port, eager to secure a ticket for one of the additional sailings offered by the Port Authority after all trips were canceled on July 1. The waterfront was lined with vehicles as commuters hoped to board the ferry and continue on their journeys.
By July 3, the inter-island ferry Buccoo Reef was spotted leaving the port for its trip to Trinidad around midday, offering a sense of relief to those eager to travel.
TT Inter-island Transportation Company Limited’s (TTIT) acting CEO, Vilma Lewis-Cockburn, expressed optimism about the situation, stating that the backlog has seemingly been cleared. With an additional sailing scheduled for 4 pm on July 3, the hope was that all issues would be resolved by then. Lewis-Cockburn mentioned that while typically only one sailing is available, two were scheduled for that day to help address the backlog effectively.
The chaos and frustration seen at the port on July 2, as hundreds of stranded individuals rushed to secure spots on the three sailings to Trinidad, seemed to have dissipated as operations gradually returned to normal.
