Trinidad and Tobago’s Under-11 boys’ table tennis team put on an impressive performance at the Caribbean Regional Table Tennis Federation’s Mini and pre-Cadet Championships in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on July 3, clinching a silver medal in the team final.
In a tightly contested match, the local duo of Zayden Sagramsingh and Tristan Soomarie faced off against Puerto Rico B. Soomarie started strong, winning the opening singles tie, but Sagramsingh couldn’t secure a win in the second singles match. The pair fought hard in the doubles but ultimately fell short, with Kennuel from Puerto Rico securing the gold for his team.
Prior to the final, the TT team battled it out in the semi-finals against Puerto Rico A. After a rocky start, Soomarie and Sagramsingh managed to turn the tide and secure a 3-1 victory to advance to the final.
Meanwhile, the U13 boys’ team faced a tough quarter-final match against Cuba, with Daniel Bhim putting up a valiant effort in the opening singles match. Despite their best efforts, the TT boys couldn’t overcome the Cuban team and were eliminated from the competition.
It was a challenging but exciting tournament for the young Trinidad and Tobago players, showcasing their talent and determination on the regional stage.
