Attention tech enthusiasts, a new Thunderbolt 5 cable has hit the market and you can grab one today from Amazon! Available in various lengths, these cables are priced at $23, $27, and $33 for 1-foot, 1.6-foot, and 3.3-foot options, respectively.

But here’s the catch – you’ll need a computer with a Thunderbolt 5 port and a compatible dock or accessory to actually make use of these cables. As of now, the only laptop known to have a Thunderbolt 5 port is the Razer Blade 18, specifically the pricey $4,500 Mercury edition. And even then, it’s not a given.

While the idea of lightning-fast file transfers between two Razer laptops using Thunderbolt Share sounds intriguing, the reality is a bit more mundane. Most peripherals compatible with Thunderbolt 5 are not yet available, with popular brands like Belkin, J5Create, OWC, and Sabrent yet to list any products on their websites. Even Hyper’s $400 dock is currently out of stock.

For now, the Thunderbolt 5 cable can double up as a USB4/Thunderbolt 4 cable. And fun fact – Cable Matters’ cable is manufactured by Lintes, the same company behind the prototype cable showcased at CES. So, while the Thunderbolt 5 technology holds promise, it seems like we’ll have to wait a little longer for the full experience.
