The Met Office has reassessed the situation in Tobago and decided to downgrade the hurricane warning to a tropical storm warning. According to the 11 am update on July 1, Beryl’s coordinates were at 12.4 degrees N latitude and 61.3 W longitude. Fortunately, the potential for hurricane-force winds has decreased as the storm moves away from the island. However, there is still a chance of tropical-storm-force winds affecting the area.

Residents should prepare for showers, extended periods of rain, gusty winds, and heavy showers and thunderstorms. The Met Office has also warned that landslides are still a possibility in areas prone to them. Hazardous seas have been observed, with large waves posing a danger to small craft, coastal and offshore activities. Mariners are advised to expect significant wave heights and navigate with caution due to strong currents and choppy seas. Stay safe and heed the advice of local authorities during this time.
