Hurricane Beryl is on the move, and not in a good way. The latest update from the Meteorological Office indicates that Beryl is currently situated northeast of Tobago, creeping westward at a brisk pace of approximately 31 km/h. As a result, showers and strong winds have been observed in the area, and things are only going to get worse with gusts expected to exceed 70 km/h.

The met service isn’t pulling any punches when it comes to warning about the dangers of venturing out to sea. There’s a whopping 90 per cent chance of hazardous seas, complete with large, menacing waves that could wreak havoc on small crafts, as well as coastal and offshore activities. Navigating these rough waters will be no easy feat, thanks to strong currents and choppy conditions that pose a significant threat.

It’s not just the ocean that’s feeling the effects of Beryl, though. Trinidad is currently under a tropical storm warning, indicating the high probability of tropical storm conditions, with sustained winds ranging from 63-118 km/h expected to hit within the next seven hours. The situation is serious enough for the met service to issue a heads up, with the next update scheduled for 8 am.
