Central Division police officers successfully prevented a potentially deadly shooting by apprehending a 20-year-old suspect outside a bar in Point Lisas early in the morning on July 28. The suspect, residing on Concerned Citizen Street in California, was found in possession of a gun and ammunition during an anti-crime operation conducted in the Couva and Freeport police districts.
The arrest took place around 3:30 am after the police received information leading them to Rampy’s Bar at Atlantic Plaza in Point Lisas. PC Cummings, part of the team led by Sgt Blackman and comprised of Snr Supt Simon, Supt Glodon, ASP Ablacksingh, Insp Selvon, and other members of the Central Division Task Force (Area South), discovered the suspect standing at the side of the building.
Upon searching the suspect, PC Cummings found a black and grey Taurus pistol with a magazine and 17 rounds of 9mm ammunition concealed on his waist. The suspect was dressed in a white jersey, blue three-quarters pants, and black slippers at the time of his apprehension.
As the investigation continues, PC Cummings remains active in conducting further inquiries regarding the incident. This successful operation underscores the importance of proactive policing in preventing potential acts of violence within the community.
